Democracy inaction – why Obama can’t deliver in Copenhagen

More climate change news: in the run-up to the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen (12-18 December) the US administration is offering the prospect of only feeble cuts (7% on 1990 levels) in its carbon emissions.

It would like to deliver more, according to this Channel 4 interview with John Kerry, but, hey, it’s only the democratically elected government! It has to satisfy various business lobbies and, what’s more, the US population is less and less convinced that global warming is really happening. Significantly, a lot of them are worried about jobs.

Still, Ed Miliband is impressed!
