There were rumours yesterday that redundancy was being delayed but that was not true. The workers received redundancy notices today. They appear to have been prepared hastily as many of them had the wrong start dates (usually in the company’s favour) and many will be queries. But this is obviously a blow. That said, speaking to workers at Newport, St Thomas Square, one of the four rallies being held around the Isle of Wight today, they said that they did not feel this marked a new emotional watershed for them. They had felt themselves to be redundant from when the process started in June.
The rally at Newport was well supported today by campaigners, and the public. Personnel from the four rallies will join forces later from 5.30pm at the East Cowes plant where the rooftop protest continues, for a march through East Cowes. If you are on the Island today, please come and join us!
