The Vestas bosses tried to demoralise you yesterday evening by sacking 11 of you. This was a calculated blow. They showed what calibre of people they are, all the years they bullied the workforce and kept out trade unions. They have shown what calibre of people they are now, by trying to force you out of the factory through hunger. Such people as they are cannot grind such people as you are down, no matter how hard they try. Because right and incredible courage are on your side.
You’ve told the BBC you were expecting the blow this evening, but also said: “It’s not going to deter us and we’re not going to leave. We’re not doing this for us now, we’re doing this for everybody else”.
Today in Newport County Court they will set out to demoralise you again, asking for their property back. Whose property? Who has been making their company profitable year after year? You, the workers. This company that took government grants to set up, and would take more grants to stay if the price were right. You don’t owe them a thing, they owe you. They owe all of us.
Your supporters at the court and all around the country, and in many other countries, will be right beside you in the court today, supporting your fight for people and our planet before profit. And, whichever way it goes, we will be with you all the way in your ongoing battle to save Vestas, save the planet.
