Leon Kuhn has kindly donated a batch of new Vestas campaign postcards, with his Ed Miliband cartoon on the front. On the back it says:
Support Vestas workers!
This summer workers at the Vestas wind turbine blade factory on the Isle of Wight fought the closure of the factory and the loss of their ‘green jobs’. They won massive support for their stand.
A number of them occupied the factory for 18 days, calling for nationalisation of the plant. The government refused to step in, in spite of their recent energy White Paper which set high targets for switching to renewable energy, and dangled the prospect of 400,000 new green jobs by 2015.
After eviction, the occupiers blockaded the factory until the police broke the blockade in September. We are still fighting for:
• reinstatement of the 11 workers sacked for occupying to save their green jobs manufacturing wind turbine blades
• the creation of socially useful jobs on the Isle of Wight and in the UK
• more renewable energy
• the future of the planet!
