Around 12 activists from the Climate Camp joined up with Brent Trades Council activists to leaflet Wembley Stadium on 29 August.
The Warrington Wolves were in the Rugby League Challenge Cup final against Huddersfield Giants.
The Wolves are currently sponsored by Vestas, and play in strip with a Vestas logo. Hopefully not for much longer.
We leafletted thousands of fans, encouraging them to raise the chant “Vestas Out! Workers In!”. We received a lot of support and raised a considerable amount of money for the campaign.
One fan said “Warrington’s always been a working-class town, we support you all the way.” Others told us of their own recent redundancies and industrial disputes they are involved in.
We are encouraging fans to write to Wolves Chief Executive, Andy Gatcliffe and petition him to kick out Vestas and get a new sponsor.
Write to him:

The Wolves won 25-16. I would have predicted a win for them, based on the morale of the fans coming out of the tube at Wembley before the match. The Wolves/Wires fans (I’m learning!) seemed much more up for it, more outlandishly dressed, and possibly more numerous than the Giants fans. Still need to get rid of Vestas as a sponsor, though. Enjoyed meeting some of you on Saturday.
